What the technology addresses

CoaleXpert targets dispersed oil and suspended solids remaining after primary separation.

    Dispersed oil

    Fine droplets that pass through primary separation and complicate secondary/tertiary treatment.

  2. 02

    Suspended solids (TSS)

    Solid particles bound to the oil phase that affect injectivity or discharge quality.

  3. 03

    Protection of injection wells

    Supports water treatment for reservoir reinjection (PWRI), where residual oil and TSS clog pore space.

  4. 04

    Discharge and reuse

    Prepares water for regulated discharge or reuse after project-specific evaluation—without transferring one market's rules to another.

How CoaleXpert works

Oleophobic coalescing media promotes droplet growth in the inter-granular space; accumulated oil and solids are removed by backwash.

  1. 01

    After appropriate pre-separation, water enters the CoaleXpert vessel.

  2. 02

    Fine oil droplets contact the oleophobic media and coalesce.

  3. 03

    The enlarged oil phase and captured solids are removed from the bed in a controlled manner.

  4. 04

    A short backwash restores the hydraulic condition of the media.

The hydraulic scheme, number of vessels and backwash mode are selected based on feed-water characteristics and pilot testing results.

Process integration

A compact CoaleXpert block can replace a combination of secondary and tertiary stages; the number of vessels is determined by the project and pilot testing.

    Roughing + polishing. Guideline: inlet up to 500 ppm, target below 5 ppm*.

Two vessels in series (roughing + polishing) are typically considered for inlet oil in the order of 150–500 ppm with a target below 5 ppm. The final design requires analysis and pilot testing.
